As a former debater in college, I agree with your thoughts here. After my sophmore year, I came to the realisation that the best debaters were simply antagonizers. They were the same types of people who would make great pundits on cable news. I focused full time on the forensics (speech) team after that and found that I made more friends, and generally was much happier with the results.

that quote is just one of the reasons Rand is rather wrong. She assumes that there is no place for prudence, for the golden mean. Her ideas of ethics are entirely me-centered and tends toward an extreme view of the ends of human life and the market-place (such as the view that the marketplace defines the ends of human existence).

As someone who's much more interested in creating cool stuff then running a business, I'd agree that blindly rushing in is a less then ideal approach.

Part of the issue comes from the fact that very few things products in the technology world are "finished." So when I look at creating something, the majority of that creation process is involved in ongoing improvement. Do I want to invest a significant amount of effort into something only to hand it over to someone who will inevitably fail to fulfill my vision?

So I guess you could say it's all about control and perfectionism... traits which seem to be shared among most self proclaimed creative types.

Ha! I was going to comment on facebook but then decided to come here just to pretend to keep it real (okay, so I've actually read your other posts here, but for some reason saw this on fb).

Certainly worth coming here, just to see the previous comment. Here's to the hope that Ms. R doesn't need blog updates on your life! (::raises a glass and hopes that this isn't really too much to ask of former TP/HSers::)

Your mistake: thinking that you'd outlived stalkers so quickly (let me assure you, you'll have many more as the years go by, even though I get much lazier).

My mistakes:
1. thinking that you were already in some B-school program this summer
2. thinking that said girlfriend had already graduated from PHC... last year

My non-mistake: reading TPI's xangas back in the day and noticing when a disputational type changed her pictures and thinking that I recognized a back (seriously, talk about stalker!) and that it meant something that someone was finally able to get you away from your computer. Yay. I was glad of that.

Happy Birthday two days late, by the way!

It's good to hear what's going on....I always figured I'd keep track of my "TP Kids" when class resumed the next year. Silly, me as the "kids" actually grow up and embrace the real world; there is life after TeenPact, they seem to be telling me. Someday I'll know that. There are always more "kids" at TP, but the names and faces keep changing!

Do keep us posted, and know our thoughts and prayers are with you.
